TO CELEBRATE MY 40TH BIRTHDAY, MY FRIEND STORN AND I VOWED TO DO A SNOWBOARD DESCENT OF MT. SHASTA. DONNING SPLIT-BOARDS, WE APPROACHED THE 14,440 ft. BEHEMOTH (OOH, GOOD WORD) with both excitement and trepidation. THE two-day acclimation climbs, and final ascent were mind-numbingly brutal, but the 7,000 ft. descent in perfect conditions was absolutely epic.
